This document assumes a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard (Full Installation) default installation.
Check for and install Microsoft updates (accessible from the control panel). It is critical that you have all Microsoft updates installed.
Once all Microsoft updates are installed, start the Server Manager (Start | All Programs | Administrative Tools | Server Manager)
Select the option to Add Roles
Confirm the information on the first page and Click Next
Select the option to install Web Server (IIS). Click Next.
Confirm the information on the following screen and click Next.
The common IIS role services features will be selected.
Click on the option to install ASP.NET. You will be asked if you want to add role services required for ASP.NET. Click the option to Add Required Role Services.
Click on Next to proceed.
Confirm your selections and click on Install.
Installation Progress will be displayed.
The installation results are displayed. Confirm the installation succeeded. Click on close.
You will return to the Server Manager. You can close this program.
Windows 2008 Server R2 SP1 does not include the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5. This will need to be installed.

Note: Windows 2008R2 by default will not allow files to be downloaded. You may need to download the installation file from a different machine and access the framework installation file from the network or other media.
You can also allow the file to be downloaded to the server by completing the following steps: (Perform these steps at your own risk, and be sure to return the settings back to default settings after the download is complete).
Start Internet Explorer
Download the installation file and complete the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation.
Check for and install Microsoft updates again (accessible from the control panel). It is critical that you have all Microsoft updates installed for the new roles and features.
